D2
D2 steel, also known as tool steel or die steel, is a high-carbon, high-chromium steel alloy known for its excellent wear resistance, high hardness, and good toughness. It's commonly used in the manufacturing of various cutting tools, dies, punches, and other high-stress applications where abrasion resistance and dimensional stability are critical.
D2 steel is used for manufacturing various types of molds, including injection molds and die casting molds, due to its excellent dimensional stability and wear resistance. It is utilized in the production of woodworking tools such as planer knives, saw blades, and chisels. D2 steel has fair machinability in the annealed or normalized condition but becomes more difficult to machine after hardening and tempering.
